WSNMS football defeats Monroeville 16-6

The W.S. Neal Middle School football scored 16 unanswered points Tuesday at home to down Monroeville 16-6 and avenge last week’s loss to the Tigers.
W.S. Neal, now 2-2 overall, fell behind to Monroeville 6-0 in the first quarter after the Tigers scored on a 55-yard pass play. Monroeville would miss the two-point conversion and would not score the remainder of the game.
W.S. Neal got on the board with a 3-yard run by J.T. Lane and after a successful two-point conversion, led Monroeville 8-6 at the half.
In the second half, the Eagles stopped Monroeville on down inside their own 15-yard line. From there, the Eagles drove 85 yards for a touchdown as Lane scored on a 20-yard run. After a two-point conversion by Christian Wood the Eagles took a 16-6 lead and hung on for the win.
Lane led W.S. Neal with 148 yards rushing on 17 carries and two touchdowns.
Wood finished with 43 yards on seven carries and had one two-point conversion. Cameron Taylor had three carries for 15 yards and Kenny Walker had two carries for 17 yards. Peyton Salter added seven yards on one carry.
Walker was 2-for-5 passing for 18 yards. Riley Fore had one catch for eight yards and Wood had one catch for 10 yards.
W.S. Neal will play at Brewton Middle School Thursday, Oct. 4. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
