JDCC holds MC Classic

Despite early morning rain, 88 golfers headed to the links of the Country Club of Brewton Thursday as they participated in the 12th annual Jefferson Davis Community College Foundation’s Murder Creek Classic golf tournament.
The Peach Chevrolet team of Terry Clark, Steve Anderson, Chris Coleman and David Hyde captured first place in the First Flight. The David’s Catfish House’s team of Josh Godwin, Lucas Douglas, Ryan Sanders and Rafael Williams placed second with the Bank of Brewton team of Charlie McDaniel, Jack Cain, Paul Owens and Brad Byrne taking third place.
Winning the second flight was the Jackson Thornton & Company team of Ed Williamson, Tommy Thompson, Keith Megginson and James Ward. The team of Bernie Wall, Mark Wall, Bill Gammill and Kinn Pittman placed second. Third place went to the team of Jake Billingsley, Chris Smith, David Peace and Rucker Brown.
The third flight team champions were the Boohaker, Schillaci & Co. team of John Boohaker, Brian Faircloth, Bob McMillan and Larry Waldrep, while Georgia-Pacific’s foursome of Cliff Roberts, Tim Kelly, Jake Riggs and Adam Marickovich took second place. Third place went to the Brewton Medical Center/Medical Center Pharmacy/D.W. McMillan Hospital team of Tommy Sheehan, Dr. James Walker, Ian Vickery and Wayne Hopper.
After qualifying 12 golfers for closest to the pin on hole No. 17, the Shoot-Out winners were Ryan Sanders, first place; Tommy White, second place; and Jack Cain, third place.
“Thank you to all of the sponsors and players who made this event so successful,” Dr. Dan Bain, President of JDCC said. “It was great to see everyone having a good time and because of you, our community sponsors, you will provide scholarship opportunities for so many current and future JDCC students.”
Kelly Billingsley, President of the JDCC Foundation, was delighted with this year’s turnout and support from the community.
“The support we receive from the community enables the JDCC Foundation to continue offering scholarships to the students at JDCC—we are truly appreciative for all the sponsors and players who participated in this year’s JDCC Murder Creek Classic golf tournament,” Billingsley said.

The tournament was a four-person scramble format with the men’s and women’s teams assigned to flights according to their handicap. The classic is held annually and benefits the JDCC Foundation for Student Scholarships.
