With family and friends in the audience, mayors for Brewton and East Brewton were sworn in to begin a four-term term Monday. City councilmen were also sworn during the ceremonies for both cities.

Outgoing Mayor Ted Jennings spoke briefly, calling his final meeting to order.

“Brewton’s best days are in front of us,” Jennings said in his final comments as mayor.

A 9 a.m. ceremony was held at Brewton City Hall with Mayor Yank Lovelace sworn into the office by his sister, Judge Sharon Blackburn. Lovelace had several family members present for the ceremony and was joined by his wife, Sally, as he took the oath of office.

Pat Poole, who represents District 1, followed Lovelace in the ceremony. Councilman Frank Cotton was joined by his children, Kim and Robbie, as he took the oath to being another term in office. Bill Littles was sworn in to beingn his first term as councilman representing District 3. Joe Watson and Fred Barton were sworn in as councilmen representing Districts 4 and 5, respectively.

In East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark was joined by his wife, Marie, as he took the oath of office that began his 21st year in the seat.

“I feel wonderful,” Clark said. “I’m proud to serve East Brewton. I have lived here for more than 60 years. This is my home and all I want is to see better things for this city.”

Councilmen Byron Palmer, Bob Arrant, Ludon Simmons, Kenneth Hultz and Ned Siebert were sworn in to serve for the next four years.

Judge David Jordan presided over the ceremony held in East Brewton.
