TRM basketball swept by Monroe County Saturday

In the first games of the season for the T.R. Miller B-team and the varsity Tigers Saturday at home, both teams lost to start the year 0-1. The Lady Tigers also lost to fall to 0-4.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Monroeville Saturday, but was changed at the last minute to be played in Brewton.
In B-team action, the Tigers lost 32-16 while the Lady Tigers lost 35-28 in overtime. In varsity action, the Tigers of Brewton lost 69-47.
T.R. Miller was set to be back in action at home Monday night against the Hillcrest Jaguars.
The Monday home game against Hillcrest will be the first of three-straight home games for the Tigers.
T.R. Miller will host Flomaton on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and will host W.S. Neal on Friday, Dec. 14.
Both games will see a 4:30 p.m. tip with the B-teams playing first followed by the girls and then the varsity teams.

Monroe County 32, TRM B-team 16
The T.R. Miller B-team found themselves doubled up in their first game of the season Saturday as Monroe County came away with a 32-16 win.
The visiting Tigers jumped out early on the Tigers of T.R. Miller 16-2 in the first quarter. The Tigers would get a brief rally in the second quarter as they outscored Monroeville 4-1 to cut the lead to 17-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, the offensive woes struck again as Monroe County held T.R. Miller scoreless with an 11-0 run to take a 22-point lead into the fourth quarter, 28-6.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller ended the game on a 10-4 run, but took the loss by 16.
Austin Holmes led T.R. Miller with six points while Markail Mitchell and Chardian Johnson both poured in four points each. Carlos Thomas had two points in the loss.

Monroe County 35, TRM Lady Tigers 28 OT
Leading 19-17 heading into the fourth quarter, the T.R. Miller Lady Tigers were outscored 8-6 in the final quarter and 10-3 in overtime to lose by seven and remain winless this year.
T.R. Miller led Monroe County 8-7 after the first quarter but was outscored 6-5 in the second to see the game get tied at 13 at the half.
In the third quarter, T.R. Miller outscored Monroe County 6-4 to take a two-point lead into the fourth quarter, but lost the game in overtime after Monroe County tied the game up in the fourth.
Tempest Thompson led the Lady Tigers with 15 points while LaTeysia Montgomery had 11. O’Nesha Hall finished with two points in the loss.

Monroe County 69, TRM varsity 47
A 25-9 run in the third quarter was the deciding factor for the T.R. Miller varsity Tiger basketball team Saturday in their home opener as Monroe County used the run to down T.R. Miller by 22, 69-47.
Monroe County led T.R. Miller 12-6 after one quarter of play, but T.R. Miller responded with an 18-17 advantage in the second quarter to cut the lead to 29-24 at the half.
In the third quarter, Monroe County exploded for a 25-9 advantage to take a 54-33 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, Monroeville ended the game on a 15-14 run to get the win by 22 points.
“We played well for a half but turnovers in the third quarter were costly,” Tiger head coach Juan Johnson said.
Eight Tigers scored in the loss with Trae Walker leading the way in double figures with 18 points. Walker finished with three assists and three steals and was 6-for-10 from the free throw line.
Caleb Hubbard and Kellyn Winn both added six points each. Hubbard had eight rebounds and five blocks. David Barragan added four points and seven rebounds while Jamar Prime and Caden Lodge also had four points each.
Terry Samuel chipped in three points and Jalen Jones added two points.
T.R. Miller was 11-for-20 from the free throw line in the loss.
