A celebration is being planned by the City of Brewton to help area residents ring in the New Year at Burnt Corn Creek Park near downtown.
The festivities will begin at 9:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve with music provided by Mark Miller with L.A. Sound. At midnight, the Blueberry Drop will be followed by the traditional fireworks display.
The D.W. McMillan Hospital Relay for Life team will be on hand with hot chocolate and other goodies for those who attend the event.
“We will have hot chocolate, coffee, and cold drinks, along with Kool-aid Jammers for the kids,” said Ruthie Cooper, who is in charge of the hospital Relay team. “We will also have nachos and cheese, hot dogs and chips, and glow necklaces. We plan on being there about 8:30 or 9 p.m. and will be set up in a booth in the parking lot at the front of Burnt Corn Creek Park.”
No alcohol will be allowed on the premises and police officers will be on hand to provide crowd control and safety throughout the evening, officials said.
St. Nicholas Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic from U.S. 31 to Court Street with Persimmon Street being completely closed prior to the beginning of the festivities to provide additional safety for pedestrians attending the festivities.
The 2013 celebration will mark the 21st year for the Blueberry Drop and fireworks display by the City of Brewton.
