Two Riverview residents who had already been under investigation were arrested last week after a traffic stop on Douglas Avenue yielded methamphetamine, Lortab, Xanax and drug paraphernalia, Brewton Police said.

Brewton Police Lt. Brock Holt said Monica Lynn Polk, 30, and Michael Wayne Oliver, 40, both of Travis Road in Riverview, were headed south on Douglas when officers pulled them over at Douglas Avenue and Rotch Boulevard.

A search of their red Ford Explorer turned up the illegal drugs and a syringe loaded with meth, officers said.

Holt said an investigation into alleged illicit drug activity involving the couple had been under way for some time when the stop occurred.

Officers transported both suspects to the Escambia County Detention Center.

Polk was charged with one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Oliver’s charges include four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

An American bulldog riding in the vehicle was turned over to the Escambia County Humane Society, Brewton police officers said.

Information about bond for Polk and Oliver was unavailable as of press time.
