Mr. Edward Lee Thornton Jr., 95, died Jan. 24, 2013 at a local nursing home. He was a former resident of West Bend and a current resident of Brewton. He was a retired timberman and small store owner. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines, and a Mason for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Thornton Sr. and Jennie Scruggs Thornton; and his wives, Evelyn Seibert Thornton and Ruby Kate Williamson Thornton.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Ralph) Deas; his granddaughters, Cindy (Jim) Bandfield and Ginger (Dave) Brogan; great-grandchildren, Lee (Kelly) Cadenhead, Beth Cadenhead, Stacy (Kevin) Forsthoefel, and Bud (Kayla) Brogan; great-great-grandsons, Taylor, Noah and Owen Cadenhead; and dear friends, Ruby Cameron and her family.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 28, at 12 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred White and Brother Lee Cadenhead officiating. Burial followed at West Bend Cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
