Area basketball tournaments set for WSN and TRM’s boys and girls

The 2013 AHSAA area basketball tournament pairings have been set statewide and on the local level for W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller. This season, with both W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller being in the same area, the two teams will be playing in the same tournament.
Locally for the W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller girls, their area tournament will begin Thursday, Feb. 7 with the regular season area champions hosting. Boys area tournaments will begin Friday, Feb. 8, also at the home of regular season area champions.
T.R. Miller’s girls finished their 3A area 1 schedule with a 2-4 record and took the No. 3 spot and will travel to area winner Cottage Hill in Mobile. The T.R. Miller boys will travel to Bayside Academy. The varsity Tigers finished area play with a 1-5 record and finished as the No. 4 seed after losing a coin flip with W.S. Neal after the two teams split in the regular season to finish with identical records.
W.S. Neal’s Lady Eagles will join the Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller at Cottage Hill. W.S. Neal finished area play with a 0-6 record while the boys finished 1-5.
The Lady Eagles finished as the No. 4 seed while the varsity Eagles finished as the No. 3 seed.
In the final class 3A area 1 girls standings, Cottage Hill finished first followed by Bayside Academy, T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal. In the boys final standings, Bayside Academy took first followed by Cottage Hill, W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller.
The area tournaments will be single elimination format.
Winners of the area tournaments will host sub-region games the following week while the area runner-ups will travel to their sub-region opponent.
Class 3A area 1 would be paired with area 2 in the sub-region round which includes Excel, Opp, Southside-Selma and Straughn—the other four teams from W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller’s football region.
Winners of sub-regional games will advance to the South Regional in Dothan.
Winners from the four regional sites across the state will advance to the state tournament in Birmingham for the Final 4 of each of the six classifications for girls and boys to makeup the Final 48 participants.
T.R. Miller was scheduled to end their regular season Friday night at Hillcrest while W.S. Neal was set to travel to Pleasant Home. W.S. Neal will end their regular season Monday at Flomaton.
Before Friday’s games, W.S. Neal girls had an overall record of 0-12 and the boys had a record of 3-10. T.R. Miller’s girls were 3-15 overall and the varsity Tigers were 2-13.
Admission to the area tournaments is $6 per session.

Girls area tournaments:
Both the Lady Tigers and Lady Eagles will travel to Cottage Hill Thursday to play in their area tournament.
As the No. 3 seed, T.R. Miller will meet No. 2 seed Bayside Academy at 4:30 p.m.
No. 4 seed W.S. Neal will play No. 1 seed Cottage Hill at 6 p.m.
T.R. Miller lost both games to Bayside this year while W.S. Neal lost both their games to Cottage Hill. Both of T.R. Miller’s wins came against W.S. Neal while the Lady Eagles went winless.
The winners from Thursday’s games will play for the area tournament Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. while the losers will be eliminated and see their seasons come to an end.

Boys area tournaments:
Both the varsity Tigers and varsity Eagles will travel to Bayside Academy Friday to play in their area tournament.
As the No. 3 seed, W.S. Neal will meet No. 2 seed Cottage Hill at 4:30 p.m.
No. 4 seed T.R. Miller will play No. 1 seed Bayside Academy at 6 p.m.
T.R. Miller lost both games to Bayside this year while W.S. Neal lost both their games to Cottage Hill. Both T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal won one game against each other this year. T.R. Miller defeated W.S. Neal in East Brewton while the Eagles took down the Eagles in Brewton.
The winners from Friday’s games will play for the area tournament Monday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. while the losers will be eliminated and see their seasons come to an end.
