JDCC baseball sweeps Lawson for first wins

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team picked up their first wins of the season Friday at home as they swept a doubleheader against the Lawson State Cougars.
JDCC used a five-run inning in both games to help key the win. The Warhawks defeated Lawson State 6-4 in the first game and 6-1 in the second game to improve to 2-1 this season.
JDCC is scheduled to be back in action with their fourth straight home game Tuesday when they take on Marion Military Institute Tuesday at noon. The game will be nine innings. The Warhawks will host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in a doubleheader Saturday. Game time is set for noon. JDCC will also be in action Sunday at home when they host Wabash Community College for a doubleheader at noon.
The game with Wabash will end JDCC’s home stand. JDCC will then have a four-game road trip before returning home to take on Spring Hill College on Thursday, Feb. 21. Game time is at noon and will be a doubleheader.

Game one: JDCC 6, Lawson State 4
Trailing 2-1 after the first inning and 4-1 after two innings of play, the Jefferson Davis Warhawks used a five-run fourth inning to rally for the first win of the season over Lawson State in game one Friday, 6-4.
John Williams got the start on the mound for JDCC and earned the win while Tyler Henry went the final two innings to get the save.
Williams went five innings and allowed five hits, four runs, two earned, walked none and struck out two. Henry allowed one hit in his two innings of work.
Mark Humphreys went 2-for-2 for JDCC at the plate and Brandon Ray was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Andrew Tindell was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Hunter Myrick was 2-for-4 with a double. Alex Jones went 1-for-3 with a double and Brandon Trawick was 1-for-3.

Game two: JDCC 6, Lawson State 1
Just like in their first game of the day with Lawson, JDCC used a five-run inning to help get a 6-1 win over Lawson State and finish off the sweep.
JDCC trailed 1-0 after the first inning and was held scoreless until tying the game at 1-all in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, JDCC used the five-run inning to help seal the win by five.
Dillan Schaniel went 1-for-3 while Tindell had two RBIs and Myrick was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Jones was 1-for-2 with a double and Matthew Holmes was 1-for-2. Logan Hill batted 3-for-4 with one RBI in the win.
Tyler Murphy got the start on the mound and the no decision while Paul Schrier earned the win in relief.
Mitchell Peterson closed the game for JDCC.
Murphy went 4.1 innings and allowed four hits, one earned run, walked one and struck out two. Schrier went 1.2 innings and allowed one hit, walked two and struck out one. Peterson went the final inning and walked and struck out one.
