The Bayside Academy Admirals used a different approach than normal to take down the T.R. Miller varsity Tigers 52-29 Friday night at home in the area tournament. The loss for the Tigers finished their season with a 2-15 record.
“Bayside played really well on defense and that dictated our offense,” T.R. Miller head coach Juan Johnson said. “I felt the previous two games against them were the complete opposite. But during the area tournament and the playoffs in general, the team that defends and rebounds the best will win the majority of the time and we just didn’t get it done tonight.”
Bayside led T.R. Miller 11-4 after one quarter and 25-8 at the half after outscoring the Tigers 14-4 in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, Bayside increased their lead to 41-14 with a 16-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter. In the fourth, T.R. Miller ended the game on a 14-11 run, but the Admirals took the win by 23 points.
Caleb Hubbard led T.R. Miller with 14 points and nine rebounds while Caden Lodge and David Barragan had four each. Kellyn Winn and Trae Walker had two points each along with Terry Samuel. Marquiese Thomas had one point in the loss.
Cottage Hill went on to beat Bayside 58-46 for the area championship. Cottage Hill will host Straughn in the sub-regional round while Bayside will travel to Southside-Selma.
