The W.S. Neal Eagle baseball team made it two in a row Tuesday night at home in their Eagle Classic as they took down Clarke County 5-1.
Recently Alabama Southern Community College signee Brian Settle led the Eagles in the win on the mound. Settle went five innings and allowed four hits, one earned run, walked three and struck out 11.
Jeremy Myers went the final two innings to help preserve the win. Myers allowed no hits, no runs, no walks and struck out one.
While Myers finished the game on the mound, it was his two-run homerun in the fourth inning that helped put the game out of reach for the Eagles.
W.S. Neal jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, and after both teams were held scoreless the next two innings, Clarke County scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the inning, Christian Purvis got a two-out single for the Eagles. That is when Myers connected for his first homerun of the season to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead. Neither the Bulldogs nor the Eagles would score the remainder of the game as W.S. Neal improved to 2-0 with the four-run win.
At the plate for the Eagles, Purvis had three singles while Myers had a homerun and two RBIs.
Dylan Godwin added a single in the win and Keith Bradley had one RBI on a squeeze bunt in the first inning that scored Damian Williams.
W.S. Neal’s JV team will be in action Thursday at home at 4 p.m. against Opp. The varsity team will be back in action Saturday at home when they take on Monroe County at 1 p.m.
