A flood watch has been upgraded to a flood warning for Murder Creek in Brewton, according to Escambia County Emergency Management Director David Adams/

Adams said Friday the flood warning will remain in effect until Sunday morning since heavy rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours.

“As a result of the expected rain, river and creek levels are forecast to rise putting the flood warning into effect,” Adams said. “It is emphasized that the forecast is based on expected rainfall during the next 24 hours. If less rainfall occurs, it may be necessary to revise the stage forecast downward.”

Adams said that at 9 a.m. Friday, the water levels at Murder Creek were at 12 feet. Minor flooding is forecast for the area. Flood stage is 22 feet with Murder Creek forecast to rise above flood stage by Saturday evening and continue to rise near 22.2 feet by early Sunday Morning. The creek will fall below flood stage later Sunday.

Adams also noted that Ann Street floods at near 22 feet and Alabama 41 can flood at near 23 feet.

“At this time, the forecast does not call for the water level to rise over Hwy. 41,” Adams said. “We are asking residents to be aware of changing conditions throughout the forecast period.”
