Plans for revitalizing Brewton’s parks and entrances are soon to be under way after council members on Monday approved a contract with a design firm for professional planning and design services.
Among the areas that Goodwyn Mills and Cawood will focus on are downtown Brewton, major corridors into the city, Sowell Road and gateways and parks.
“They’ll have conceptual designs for us,” Mayor Yank Lovelace told the council members Monday.
The project will cost $25,000 for the citywide basic concept, with additional charges for other areas.
Lovelace said the city will pay on a monthly basis as work is done. The city will either do the actual beautification work itself or contract it out.
Goodwin Mills and Cawood will provide “graphic depictions of major concepts and recommendations, maps and diagrams and illustrations of plan proposals, as well as brief written summaries of the plan and selective recommendations for implementation,” according to a letter from GMC.
Among the specific focus areas will be downtown, the U.S. 31 and 29 corridor and Alabama 41 corridor; the Sowell Road corridor; Burnt Corn Creek Park; Alco family park; and the gateway at the bridge to East Brewton.
