The No. 6-ranked T.R. Miller Tigers saw their winning streak increase to four games Friday night in game one in Excel, but then saw it end in game two as the Tigers split with the Panthers.
T.R. Miller, now 5-2 after the split Friday, won game one 9-2 over the Panthers but dropped game two by a score of 3-1.
In game one, Tiger pitchers Kyle Davis and Ryan Hunt combined to pitched a no-hitter in the seven-run win.
“Kyle and Ryan did a great job on the mound,” T.R. Miller Tiger head coach Jim Hart said.
Davis earned the win on the mound for the Tigers. Davis went five innings and allowed one run, no hits, struck out 12, walked three and hit one.
Hunt went the final two innings and allowed one run, no hits, struck out one, walked one and hit one.
At the plate for the Tigers of T.R. Miller, Jacob Fillmore, Kevin Davis, Darby Black and Tripp Floyd all had hits.
Davis and Floyd had a double each while Black had a homerun. Fillmore had two RBIs while Black had one.
T.R. Miller scored eight runs in the fourth inning to help aid them in the win.
In game two, the Tigers saw their winning streak end with a 3-1 loss.
Hart said hitting was the problem in the loss for the Tigers.
“We left too many runners in scoring position and did not execute a squeeze,” Hart said. “Pitching was good enough to win, but we did not produce at the plate.”
Hart said his No. 2 through No. 8 hitters had no hits in the loss.
“We were not patient enough at the plate.”
Jones Manning and Floyd both had a hit each for the Tigers in the loss.
Floyd took the loss on the mound. He went four innings and allowed two runs, one earned run, four hits, struck out three, and walked six.
Black went the final innings for T.R. Miller and allowed one earned run, one hit, walked none and struck out two.
T.R. Miller’s lone run came in the fifth inning while Excel scored two in the second and one in the sixth.
T.R. Miller’s varsity and JV is scheduled to play at home against Jay on Thursday. JV is set to start at 4 p.m. while the varsity is to play at 6 p.m.
