Warren John Garmeson

Warren John Garmeson passed away at Richard Murphy Hospice House, Hammond, La., and March 11, 2013 at the age of 88.

He was born in San Francisco, Calif., March 21, 1924 and had lived the last three years at Live Oak Village in Hammond.

After completing high school he served during World War II and the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy. He was a chief medical technologist at D.W. McMillan Hospital in Brewton for 25 years. During this time he received an award for support and contributions to the Department of Medical Technology from the University of South Alabama. He was a Lifetime Member of T. R. Miller High School Band Boosters. One of his favorite pastimes was acting in community plays at Jefferson Davis Junior College in Brewton. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Brewton for 30 years. A member of First Baptist Church in Pontchatoula, La., he participated in many activities as a member of the senior choir and was an avid runner until the age of 85.

He was preceded in death by his parents Reginald and Hazel Garmeson; Louise Garmeson, a devoted wife and mother for 47 years; a wife, Sarah Garmeson; two brothers, Roy and Charles Garmeson; and a son, Rick Garmeson.

He is survived by two sons, Reginald (Joyce) Garmeson Alcoa, Tenn. and Martin (Patricia) Garmeson of Mobile; two daughters, Louann  (Ronnie) Crumpton of Nashville, Ga., and Warene Sheridan of Pontchatoula, La.; a sister, Verna Alcantara of Coeur d’Alene, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held March 23, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Brewton at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Mr. Garmeson’s body was donated to LSU Medical School.
