JDCC softball splits with Iowa Central, goes 1-4 in Montgomery

After taking a 10-2 loss in game one Monday at home to the Iowa Central Tritons, the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team fought back in game two to get a 6-2 win and earn a split.
With the split, JDCC improved to 8-17 this season.
In game one, the Lady Warhawks were outscored 10-0 in the first two innings to help Iowa Central to the 10-2 win. The Lady Tritons had nine hits in the first two innings to go along with their 10 runs.
JDCC’s two runs came in the fifth inning.
Breanna Hall took the loss in the circle in game one. Hall went 1 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits, nine runs, walked three and struck out one.
Jessica Swindle went the next 2 2/3 innings and allowed one hit, one run, walked and struck out one.
Elissa Kelly went the final inning and allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one.
At the plate for JDCC, Morgan Agerton, Hall, Laura Zeegars, Sarah Beth Watkins and Mindy Walker all had singles. Walker and Paige Odom had the two RBIs.
In game two, the Lady Warhawks broke a 2-2 tie after the third inning with two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to get a 6-2 win.
Swindle earned the win in the circle for JDCC. Swindle went the complete game seven innings and allowed seven hits, two runs, three walks, struck out six and hit two batters.
At the plate, Watkins had a single and a triple and Odom had two singles and two RBIs.
Zeegars had three singles and four RBIs while Agerton and Paige Harwell had a single each.
In other games for the Lady Warhawks, JDCC went 1-4 in their conference crossover Friday and Saturday in Montgomery. JDCC opened the tournament with a 9-4 loss to Wallace-Dothan. JDCC then lost to Wallace State Hanceville 6-0 and 13-1 on Friday before taking down Enterprise 6-2 on Saturday. Also on Saturday against Shelton State, JDCC lost 10-2.
The Lady Warhawks are scheduled to begin their conference schedule Wednesday with a 2 and 4 p.m. doubleheader at Alabama Southern in Monroeville.
