Essie Mae Redmon McCants

Mrs Essie Mae Redmon McCants, 101, died March 17, 2013. She was a native of Wilcox County and a long time resident of Brewton. She was a dorm parent at Southern  Normal High School for five years, and had been an employee at the Escambia County Courthouse.  She was very active in her church, being one of the founders of the church. She also operated a kindergarten and daycare center for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Reese McCants; her parents, Henry and Mary Redmon; and other relatives..
She is survived by a sister, Opal Redmon Dixon of Birmingham; a sister-in-law, Mattie Gantt of Brewton; a stepson; 11 stepchildren; and a host of other friends and relatives, including a special niece, Phyllis Redmon.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Church with the Rev. Eric  Andrews and Elder Donald Pearse officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
