JDCC baseball sweeps Bishop State

After taking game one over Bishop State Thursday at home, the Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk baseball team finished off a three-game sweep of the Wildcats Saturday to increase their winning streak to three games,
JDCC won game one 9-8 on Saturday and won game two 3-2 to improve to 13-20 overall and to 5-13 in conference play. No stats were known as of press time from game one.
Saturday’s game one win for the Warhawks was a back-and-forth win.
Bishop State took a 2-0 lead over the Warhawks in the first inning and then led JDCC 4-0 after the top of the third.
After JDCC cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the inning, the Warhawks erupted in the fourth inning with six runs to grab an 8-4 lead.
Leading by four, Bishop State scored four runs in the fifth to tie the game at 8-all. From there, JDCC added one run in the bottom of the sixth to take the win by one.
Michael Yarborough got the start for JDCC and the no decision. Yarborough went four innings and allowed five hits, seven runs, five earned, walked five and struck out six.
Tyler Henry went 1/3 of an inning in the fifth as he relieved Yarborough and allowed two hits, one earned run, and struck out one.
Mitchell Peterson went the final 4 2/3 innings and allowed six hits, no runs, walked and hit one, and struck out three.
At the plate for JDCC, the Warhawks pounded out 15 hits in the win.
Mark Humphreys had a single for JDCC and Logan Hill had a double and two RBIs. Matthew Holmes had three singles and two RBIs and Kyle Freeman added two singles and a triple and had two RBIs. Alex Jones had a single and a solo homerun to finish with one RBI while Brandon Ray, Trae Walsingham and Reid Johnson all had singles. Hunter Bonds chipped in a single and a double.
