The T.R. Miller Tiger baseball team ended their season on a winning note Friday at home as they swept the Cottage Hill Warriors to end their season with a 14-9 record.
T.R. Miller took game one over the Warriors 13-0 behind the no-hit pitching of Kevin Davis. In game two, the Tigers won 3-2 to finish their area season with a 3-3 record.
“Kevin did a good job on the hill and we swung the bats well in game one,” Tiger head coach Jim Hart said. “A big first inning was the key in game one. In game two, Darby Black pitched a great game and gave us a chance to win. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, we got two big hits and a sacrifice fly to get the win.”
Hart said his team had a good week to finish the season.
“We beat Excel on Tuesday and then had the two wins against Cottage Hill,” Hart said. “The season was not what we were expecting, but the kids finished up strong and I am very proud of them for that.”
In game one, T.R. Miller struck for 11 runs in the first inning to cruise to a 13-0 win. The Tigers added two more in the third to get the win in five innings.
Davis earned the win on the mound going the complete game and allowed no runs, no hits, struck out 10, walked three and hit one.
At the plate, Jacob Fillmore was 2-for-3 with a triple and two stolen bases. Davis was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and one stolen base. Kyle Davis was 1-for-2 with a homerun and three RBIs. Jones Manning, Darby Black, Tripp Floyd, Ryan Hunt and Zac Griffin all had one hit each.
In game two, the Tigers trailed Cottage Hill 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh before getting two runs in their half of the inning to win 3-2.
Hunt led the inning off with a single and then stole second. He later scored on Trey Salter’s single. After a Jones Manning sacrifice fly to centerfield, Salter scored for the Tigers’ win.
Black earned the win on the mound going seven innings and allowing two runs, one hit, walked none and struck out seven. Black hit one batter in the win.
At the plate, Fillmore was 2-for-3 with a double and Kyle Davis, Cody Smith, Hunt and Salter all had hits.
