In the Class 3A, Section 1 golf tournament at Lagoon Park Monday, Bayside Academy finished first with a total score of 305, followed by Straughn’s 310, Trinity’s 326, Catholic’s 337, Opp’s 373 and T.R. Miller’s 375.
The four individuals who advanced to sub-state play were Bayside Academy’s Bryce Roush (82), Opp’s Tyler Thompson (86), T.R. Miller’s Troy Hart (86) and Excel’s Colby Cotton (88).
The next round will be played at Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery. Other Tigers and their scores were Will Smith (92), Rob Stokes (95), and Tylan McDonald and Yancey Jernigan both with an 102.
“Lagoon Park is a tighter course than we usually play and easier to get into trouble left and right of the fairway,” Tiger head coach Marc Edge said. “You have to be spot on. This coupled with fast fast greens made for a long day.
“We had a hard time finding the fairway and then when we got on green we did something we haven’t done all year really which was struggle putting.
“Once we got adjusted we did well but by that time we had given away too many strokes. One bright spot was Troy Hart qualifying for substate.
“Thanks to all people at T.R. Miller and the Country Club of Brewton and Billy Casper golf. They all did a great job. Also thanks to Jack Slocomb and all of his help.”
