Brewton and surrounding areas will have expanded 4G service as of later this summer, AT&T officials announced last week.
Three 4G LTE mobile Internet towers are already built in the Brewton area.
The expansion is part of a $1.4 billion investment into Alabama’s wireless and wireline networks from 2010 to 2012.
AT&T officials were on hand at the Brewton store, along with local officials.
This year so far LTE has been added to more than 350 sites. Five of those sites are in Escambia County. Two of the five are in Atmore and three are in Brewton. AT&T is also hiring, with more than 350 jobs available in all areas of the state. While some jobs are existing, the majority are new positions.
“LTE is a key ingredient to attracting to new jobs,” state Rep. Alan Baker said. “LTE is a way to bring broadband to rural areas.”
