Babe Ruth Thursday: Aggies and Auburn sweep

Thursday’s Brewton Babe Ruth games saw the first place Texas A&M Aggies distance themselves as leaders of the pack and saw the Kentucky Wildcats continue to slide as they lost their seventh straight game to remain in fourth place. As for the middle of the pack, a sweep by the Auburn Tigers over the Wildcats put a little heat on the Tennessee Volunteers for the race for second place after the Volunteers were swept by the Aggies.
In Thursday’s games, the Aggies improved to 10-2 this year and Tennessee fell to 7-5 after the Aggies claimed wins of 11-2 and 13-5. Auburn improved to 6-6 and dropped Kentucky to 1-11 with wins of 16-4 and 17-7.
Games will resume at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in both Brewton and East Brewton when Tennessee and Kentucky meet at T.R. Miller and Auburn and Texas A&M play in East Brewton.
After Thursday’s games league standings were the Aggies in first place followed by Tennessee, Auburn and Kentucky.

Texas A&M 11-13, Tennessee 2-5
The Tennessee Volunteers made 14 errors in two games while the Texas A&M Aggies pounded out 18 hits and scored 24 combined runs in a sweep of Tennessee Thursday night in East Brewton.
In game one, the Aggies scored in every inning but two and capped off the nine-run win with a five-run sixth inning to defeat the Vols 11-2. The Volunteers made 10 errors in game one.
Lane Chavers and Tripp Floyd combined for the win on the mound to the Aggies while Hunter Brittain and Jo Jo Booker pitched in the loss for Tennessee.
At the plate for the Aggies, Chavers led with a double and one RBI while six other Aggies had singles. Floyd had one RBI in the win.
For Tennessee, Booker had the hot bat with a single and a double.
In game two, the Aggies used a nine-run first inning to propel them to a 13-5 win and get the sweep.
For the Aggies at the plate, Drew Williamson had a double and a single and two RBIs while Jake Najor had two singles and three RBIs. Ty McFerrin had two RBIs in the win.
On the mound, Christian Alvarez and Austin Holmes pitched in the win.
For Tennessee, Christopher Gehman led with a double. Caleb Winton, Russell Smith and Joshua Winton all pitched in the loss.

Auburn 16-17, Kentucky 4-7
The Auburn Tigers outscored the Kentucky Wildcats 33-11 Thursday night in Brewton to come away with a two-game sweep and inch closer to second place.
In game one, after a high scoring first inning that saw Auburn lead Kentucky 6-4, the Wildcats were held scoreless the remainder of the game while Auburn scored 10 unanswered runs to get the win.
At the plate for Auburn, Brooks Brown led with a triple while Tim McDonald, TyShawn Davis, Kristian Taylor and Colton Young all had doubles. For Kentucky, Jared Cooper led with a double.
On the mound for Auburn, McDonald earned the win while Colton Morris and Connor Huskey all pitched for Kentucky.
In game two, Auburn broke open a 3-all tie with five runs in the fourth and added six in the sixth inning to get the win by 10.
For the Tigers, Brown had a triple while Derrick Barton and Young both had doubles. Christian Mancil led with three RBIs. For Kentucky, Cooper led with a triple while Sam Frazier led with two RBIs.
Stokes Jennings and Lane Clark all pitched in the win for Auburn while Bryce Booker, Matt Hutchins, Dakota Graves and Frazier pitched for the Wildcats.
