Fans of the game of the basketball and players who want to improve their game will have to look no further than T.R. Miller High School in Brewton to attend camps this summer.
T.R. Miller’s gym will be the host site of four camps this summer.
Coach Ron Jackson and his staff will host a city-wide skills camp, a Shot Doctor USA camp, a Point Guard camp and a Big Man camp.
“We have some special people coming in with an ex-WNBA player coming in for the Point Guard camp,” Jackson said. “She played with my daughter in the WNBA. My daughter is also coming in for the post camp. We just want people in the community to know what we are doing.”
The City of Brewton camp will start on Monday, June 3 and will conclude on Thursday, Aug. 1. The camp will be held Monday through Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.
Late registration for the City of Brewton camp will be held Monday, June 3, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The Shot Doctor Shooting camp will be held Wednesday, June 12 and Thursday, June 13. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
The Shot Doctor camp is for boys and girls in the fifth grade up to seniors in high school.
The Point Guard camp will be held Wednesday, June 19 and Thursday, June 20. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. The camp is designed to teach campers how to shoot more accurately, be more consistent, shoot off the dribble and the pass, footwork and other basketball techniques.
The Big Man camp will be held Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 27. The camp will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days. The camp will not meet the week of Fourth of July—July 1-4.
All camps will be held at the T.R. Miller High School Gymnasium on 1835 Douglas Avenue in Brewton.
“Today, we don’t play enough basketball and we don’t know a lot of the fundamentals,” Jackson said. “The fundamentals are being lost. Kids used to play outside and used to just get out and do something and we are not doing that. I have noticed that we have some kids who cannot even throw the basketball down the court and they just don’t know the normal skills of basketball. With this camp, I am going to try and make it where they can play basketball all summer. We are going to try and keep them out in the heat and keep them busy and just try and help them fill that void of not doing anything. We are bringing in a lot of good people who are good at several things. We will have about eight to 10 people coming in for this camp.”
The Point Guard and Big Man Camp is sponsored by TPSC Promoters and the other camps are sponsored by the City of Brewton.
