Brewton 10U in title game Monday night against Opp, but needs two wins

After getting off to a 2-0 start in tournament play Friday and Saturday in East Brewton, the Brewton all-stars fell to Opp Sunday, but won their loser’s bracket game later in the day and clinched a spot in the tournament championship game.
As of Sunday night, Brewton was 3-1 in tournament play with wins over Evergreen and two over Andalusia. Brewton’s lone loss came to Opp on Sunday. Brewton and Opp are to meet Monday night at 6 p.m. for the tournament championship. Brewton needs two wins to claim the tourney title.
Brewton opened with a 21-1 win over Evergreen Friday before coming away with a 14-7 win over Andalusia on Saturday. On Sunday, Brewton led Opp 5-3 with one out in the sixth inning before Miller Hart suffered an arm injury. After the injury, Opp rallied to defeat Brewton 6-5 to hand Brewton their first loss of the tournament.
Needing a win in their loser’s bracket game against Andalusia later in the day, the two teams played to a 5-all tie after six innings before Brewton rallied to score eight runs in the seventh inning to get a 13-5 win and advance to meet Opp again Monday afternoon.

Friday: Brewton 21, Evergreen 1
The Brewton 10U all-stars started their tournament off with a bang as they cruised to a 21-1 win over Evergreen Friday night in four innings.
Brewton scored five runs in the first inning, eight in the second, seven in the third and one in the fourth while holding Evergreen to one run in the third inning to get the 20-run mercy rule win.
Blake Jernigan swung the hot bat for Brewton as he had a triple and two singles. Kyle Blevins added a single along with Nolan Atkinson. Brandon Coleman had a double while Trent Cooper also had a triple. Ty Harvell and Jaxson Flores also had singles in the win.
Brewton benefited from seven Evergreen errors, 12 walks and four hit batters.
Atkinson, Flores and Coleman all pitched in the win for Brewton with Atkinson earning the win.

Saturday: Brewton 14, Andalusia 7
Brewton scored four runs in the first inning and 10 runs in the fifth inning to move to 2-0 in tourney play with a 14-7 win over Andalusia Saturday.
Blake Jernigan earned the win on the mound going four innings while Whitley Lisenby went the final two innings.
Kyle Blevins had two singles while Jernigan had four singles. Brandon Coleman added a triple and Trent Cooper had a single.
Andalusia had seven hits in the loss.

Sunday: Opp 6, Brewton 5
With Brewton leading Opp 5-3 and one out in the sixth inning, Opp rallied with four runs in the inning to stun Brewton 6-5. The rally for Opp came after an arm injury to starting Brewton pitcher Miller Hart.
Brewton led Opp 2-1 after the first inning before Opp tied the game at 2-all in the bottom of the third. After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, Brewton used a three-run fifth inning to grab a 5-2 lead before Opp’s four-run rally in the sixth inning.
For Brewton, Kyle Blevins had a double and Whitley Lisenby had two singles. Nolan Atkinson, Ty Harvell and Trent Cooper all had singles.
For Opp, Lane Ballard, Jesse Coon, Tray Boutwell, Peyton Ellis and Walt Spurlin all had singles. Brady James had a single and a triple while Thomas Glisson had two singles.
Hal Smithart, James and Ballard all pitched for Opp in the win.
Hart and Lisenby pitched for Brewton.

Sunday: Brewton 13, Andalusia 5
With Andalusia leading 5-3 in the fourth inning, Brewton scored 10 unanswered runs over the last two innings of regulation and one extra inning to come away with a 13-5 win. The win put Brewton in the championship game against Opp as Andalusia was eliminated.
Brandon Langley, Chase Harper, Jack Day, Chad Long and Caleb McLeod all pitched for Andalusia while Brandon Coleman and Blake Jernigan pitched for Brewton.
With Andalusia up 5-3 in the fourth inning, Brewton scored one each to tie the game at 5-all after six innings. In the seventh inning, Brewton scored eight runs and held Andalusia scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
Kyle Blevins had three singles and a triple in the win while Blake Jernigan, Brandon Coleman and Logan Rowell all had singles.
For Andalusia, Garrett Simpler had two singles and Long had a single. Terrance Salter had three singles and Langley added two singles along with McLeod.
Caleb Blackston had two singles and Day had a single.
