EB 12U Cal Ripken baseball all-stars finish third at district tournament

The 12U East Brewton Cal Ripken baseball all-stars saw their 2013 all-star season end Sunday in Evergreen with a 4-2 loss to Covington County.
East Brewton went 3-2 in the tournament and finished in third place out of seven teams.
East Brewton opened their tournament play Thursday with a 4-3 win over Andalusia. On Saturday, Covington County handed the all-stars a 7-5 loss to drop East Brewton into the losers bracket.
From there, East Brewton took down Evergreen 18-13 in eight innings.
On Sunday, East Brewton defeated Brewton 13-1 in four innings to eliminate Brewton from tourney play. East Brewton then advanced to play Covington County, who eliminated East Brewton with a 4-2 win.
Making the 12U all-star for East Brewton in 2013 was: Jennings Hobbs, Jacoby Hawthorne, Sawyer Lewis, Morgan Riley, Tucker Davenport, Tyler Pierce, Dylan Ingram, Marcus Dillard, Matthew Thomas, and Paxton Scurlock.
Saturday: EB 7, CC 5
Following a 4-3 win Thursday night over Andalusia to open their tournament, East Brewton had Friday off before being matched up with Covington County Saturday and was handed a 7-5 loss.
Thomas took the loss on the mound for East Brewton as he went five innings and allowed nine hits, seven runs, walked two and struck out eight.
At the plate, Lewis had a single along with Davenport, Riley and Ingram. Hobbs had a single and a triple.
Covington County led East Breton 3-1 after the first inning and 4-1 after three innings. After East Brewton cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning, Covington County scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-3 lead. East Brewton scored two runs in the fifth to cut the lead to 7-5, but took the loss by two.
Saturday: EB 18, Evergreen 13 (8 innings)
In their second game Saturday, East Brewton got all they could stand and more from Evergreen as the two teams battled eight innings before East Brewton came away with an 18-13 win.
East Brewton led Evergreen 2-1 after the first inning and built an 8-2 lead in the second after scoring six runs in the inning. With a 10-2 lead after the top of the third for the East Brewton all-stars, the game looked in control until Evergreen used their own six-run inning to cut the lead to 10-8. With their lead cut to 10-9 after the fourth inning, East Brewton took a 12-9 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. From there, Evergreen tied the game at 12-all and had the game-winning run thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning and the game headed to extra innings. Evergreen’s coach argued the final out and was eventually thrown out of the game.
Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh inning, before East Brewton used another six-run inning in the eighth to take an 18-12 lead. Evergreen plated one in their half of the inning to cut the lead to 18-13, but East Brewton was able to hang on for the five-run win and advance to play on Sunday.
At the plate for East Brewton, Lewis had a single and Hobbs had a triple and a single. Hawthorne added a double along with Riley while Thomas had a single and a three-run homerun in the eighth inning to help put the game away.
Ingram chipped in a single along with Scurlock while Pierce had two singles.
On the mound, Hawthorne earned the win in relief as he was East Brewton’s fourth pitcher of the day. Hawthorne went the final two innings and allowed one hit, one run and struck out six.
Hobbs was the starting pitcher for East Brewton and pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief.
Hobbs went 2 2/3 innings and allowed four hits, three runs, walked five and struck out two.
Ingram went one inning and allowed three hits, six runs, walked and struck out two while hitting one.
Davenport went 2 1/3 innings and allowed three hits, three runs, walked, hit and struck out one batter.
Sunday: EB 13, Brewton 1
On Sunday, Brewton saw their tournament run end as East Brewton routed Brewton 13-1.
Brewton was held to one run in the third inning, while East Brewton plated five in the first inning, three in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth before the game was stopped due to the 10-run mercy rule.
For Brewton at the plate, Johnson was 1-for-2 and Walker was 1-for-1.
For East Brewton, Jennings Hobbs was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Jacoby Hawthorne was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Matt Thomas hit his second home run of the tournament and went 2-for-3. Thomas homerun was a three-run homerun in the first inning.
Morgan Riley was 1-for-3, Dylan Ingram was 1-for-2 with two RBI, Tucker Davenport was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Tyler Pierce was 1-for-2.
Thomas pitched for East Brewton and went four innings and allowed two walks, struck out two and allowed two hits while getting the win.
Martin started for Brewton on the mound and took the loss. Flores followed Martin on the mound.
Sunday: CC 4, EB 2
After defeating Brewton Sunday, East Brewton was matched up again with Covington County and took another two-run loss to be eliminated from tournament with a 4-2 loss.
Hawthorne pitched six innings for East Brewton and allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked four and struck out nine. East Brewton had two hits with Thomas having two singles in the loss.
East Brewton was held to one run in the fourth and sixth innings while Covington County plated two in the first, one in the third and one in the fifth innings to claim the win.
