Brewton Advanced BR Dawgs split with CC Thursday night in Brewton

In a Thursday night Advanced Babe Ruth game in Brewton between the Brewton Dawgs and Covington County, the two teams split. With the split, Brewton’s record went to 7-7-1.
In game one, Brewton edged out Covington County 6-5 while Covington County took the nightcap win with a 5-0 blanking of the Brewton Dawgs.

Game one: Brewton 6, CC 5
Brewton built a 6-1 lead over Covington County after two innings and was able to hang on to get a 6-5 win in game one Thursday night in Brewton at T.R. Miller.
Tyler Joyner earned the win on the mound for the Dawgs of Brewton while Tyler Peebles got the save. Joyner went four innings and allowed six hits, four runs, walked one and struck out four. Peebles went one inning and allowed one hit, one run and walked two.
John Bess took the loss for Covington County as he went three innings and allowed five hits, six runs, walked and hit two batters while striking out three. Grayson Campbell went the final inning and struck out two.
At the plate for Brewton, Caden Lodge had a single and Joyner had a double and one RBI. Darby Black had a single and one RBI along with Brandon Carmichael and Rob Jones.
For Covington County, Chase Short had a single while Campbell added a double and Bess had a single and two RBIs. Brandon Smith had a single and a double and one RBI while Gavin McCurley finished with two singles and two RBIs.
Brewton led CC 4-1 after the first inning and 6-1 after the second. Covington County plated three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, but Brewton grabbed the win by one.

Game two: CC 5, Brewton 0
Covington County’s Jordan Walker went the complete game distance on the mound and allowed three hits, no runs, walked and hit one batter while striking out seven to give CC a split Thursday with a 5-0 win in game two.
CC scored one run each in the first and third innings and added three in the final frame of the fifth inning to put the game away and get the five-run win.
At the plate for CC, Short had a single while Walker had two singles. Campbell had a double and one RBI while Bess had two singles and one RBI. Cody Marler chipped in a single and one RBI while Trey Lewis added a single in the win.
For Brewton, Lodge and Mike Williams had a single each at the plate while Carmichael had a double to lead off the fifth inning.
On the mound, Lodge took the loss going four innings and allowed four hits, two runs, walked one, hit two and struck out nine. Black went the final inning and allowed four hits, three runs and struck out two.
