Softball all-star recap from Thursday’s state tourney games

Andalusia picked up wins in 10U and 12U softball action tonight in pool play of the Babe Ruth Softball State Tournament at the Dwight Mikel Sports Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Brewton 15-14 in 10U action, and beat Ashland 11-1 in 12U action in the nightcap.
In other action, Tri County beat Covington County 14-5, Flomaton/East Brewton defeated Opp 6-5 and PCI defeated Brewton 17-15 in 12U play.
After Thursday’s games, Brewton’s 10U team was 0-1 while the 12U team was 1-1.
East Brewton/Flomaton’s 10U team was 0-1 while the 12U team was 1-0.
Brewton’s 12U team defeated Ashland 6-2 in their first game Thursday. No stats or game information was known from that game as of press time.
Teams will resume play Friday in Andalusia. Brewton’s 8U team will play Covington County at 11 a.m. then will play Opp at 5 p.m.
In the 10U group, Brewton will play Alexander City at 9 a.m. and Flomaton/East Brewton will play Covington County at 11 a.m.
In 12U tourney games, Flomaton/EB will play Tri County at 11 a.m. while Andalusia meets Brewton at 1 p.m. At 5 p.m., Covington County will play Flomaton/EB.

12U: Andalusia 11, Ashland 1
Zoria Jones went 1-for-1 with a single; Millie Manring and Madison Long went 1-for-3 each; and Tessa Walker went 0-for-3 with two runs to lead Andalusia.

Tri County 14, Covington County 5
It was a 7-5 ball game after the fourth inning, but Tri County opened up the fifth with five runs and tacked on a couple more in the sixth to hold out with the win.
Covington County scored one run in the first inning, two runs each in the second and fourth innings in the loss.
Tri County led 4-3 in the third inning.
Amy Kate Bulger went 2-for-2 with two singles; Hope Gunner went 1-for-3; Morgan Bledsoe went 1-for-3 with a double; Bella Worley went 1-for-3; and Tori Hall went 1-for-2 to lead CC.

PCI 17, Brewton 15
It was a back and forth affair for both of these teams throughout the contest.
PCI scored six runs in the second inning to lead 9-7, but Brewton came back in the third with four runs of its own to lead 11-10 after the team from Atmore tacked on another run in their half inning.
PCI went to score five runs in the fourth compared to Brewton’s one, added two runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on in the bottom of the sixth.
Mary Madison Brown scored four runs to lead Brewton.

Flomaton/East Brewton 6, Opp 5
FEB scored four runs in the second inning and held on late against an Opp rally in the final four innings.
Kaile Gumapac went 2-for-3 with two singles to lead FEB; Maggie Lane went 1-for-3; and Brianna Pugh went 1-for-2.
Opp’s Maggie Short and Abbie Glass went 1-for-3 each.

10U: Opp 20, East Brewton 3
The Lady Bobcats scored nine runs each in the first and third innings

Andalusia 15, Brewton 14
Andalusia outscored Brewton 8-6 in the final three innings after falling behind by one run after the second.
Brewton and Andalusia scored four runs each in the first inning. Andalusia added three runs in the third to Brewton’s four to trail 8-7.
In the fourth, Andalusia tacked on four runs and Brewton scored two runs.
Andalusia went on to score two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Maggie Furr went 1-for-3 with a single; and Erin Riley went 1-for-4 with a single to lead Andalusia.
For Brewton, Macie Happoldt was 2-for-5 and Courtland Salter was 1-for-2. Chloe Smith was 2-for-4 while Sara Scott and Sailor Smith were both 1-for-3. Makenna Rowell was 1-for-1. Mackenzie Thomas had a double.
Salter pitched and struck out one while allowing six runs. Smith pitched and had five strikeouts and allowed nine runs.
