Thomas Eugene Smith

The Rev. Thomas Eugene Smith, 72, died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in Castleberry. He was a native and life long resident of Castleberry and attended Auburn University. He worked as a forester and purchasing agent for T.R. Miller Mill Company for 42 years and served as pastor of Woodlawn Methodist Church, Springhill Methodist Church, and Hartwood Methodist Church.  He was an avid farmer and gardener.
He is survived by his wife, Sybil O. Smith of Castleberry; one son, Thomas Wade Smith of Prattville; one daughter, Carmen Smith of Castleberry; one brother, Edward Smith of Ft. Benning, Ga.; four sisters, Bertha Mae Stafford of Gilbertown, Louise Salter of Lyeffion, Jean Waldrop of Toto, Ind., and Sue Weaver of Castleberry; two grandchildren, Corey Lynn Smith and Tatum McKenzie Smith; and a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Johnson, the Rev. Jean Spikes, and the Rev. Bobby Boatwright officiating.  Burial will follow in Buffington Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Ivey, Floyd Morgan, Ronnie Hoskins, John Nelson, Joseph Nelson, and Johnny Mack Bartlett.
