Brewton Advanced BR Dawgs split with CC

Covington County and Brewton split in 16-to-18-year-old Advanced Babe Ruth baseball action Tuesday night in Red Level.
With the recent rains that swept through the area in the last week, the game was moved to the only dry field in the county. Covington County usually plays on Crum Foshee Field at LBWCC.
Covington County blew an early 2-0 lead in game one to fall 5-4, but came back in the night cap with a 7-1 victory for the split.
Brewton is scheduled to play Saturday against Mobile at 2 p.m. and Covington County at 7:30 p.m. with Mobile and Covington County playing in between at 4:30 p.m. All games will be at T.R. Miller.
As of Tuesday’s split, Brewton is 8-8-1 overall.

Brewton 5, Covington County 4
Brewton led 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning with two outs on the board. It scored on a throwing error to make it 5-3 after a walk.
Covington County came back in the bottom of the fifth when Graham hit an RBI single with two outs to cut it to 5-4.
County got two men on with errors in the infield, but couldn’t get them across as the last batter — Cody Marler — flew out to third to end the game.
Brewton scored one run in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and one run each in the fourth and fifth in the win.
Grayson Campbell went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Brandon Smith went 0-for-3 with an RBI; Graham went 1-for-3 with an RBI; Austin Worley went 0-for-2 with an RBI; and Will Harrison went 1-for-1 with a single.
Brewton’s Caden Lodge went 1-for-2 with an RBI; Caleb Dickey went 1-for-3 with an RBI; and Ryan Hunt went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Darby Black started the game and pitched two innings giving up two unearned runs. Tyler Joyner relieved Black in the third inning and went the final three innings giving up the two runs with only one earned.

Covington County 7, Brewton 1
CC scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the game wide open.
Chase Short and Ross Graham led the inning with back-to-back RBI singles to push their lead to 4-1.
Justin Scherzinger then added an RBI ground out to make it 5-1, and Peyton Maddox added an RBI single to make it 6-1. Later on the same play, Covington County squeezed in another run to bring its game-winning score up to seven runs.
Short laced an RBI triple in the bottom of the second inning to right center to bring the game to 2-1 after an early 1-1 tie.
Brewton’s Brandon Carmichael went 1-for-2 with a double; and Taylor Elliot went 0-for-2 with an RBI.
Short went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs; Graham went 2-for-3 with an RBI; Scherzinger went 0-for-3 with an RBI; Maddox went 1-for-2 with two RBIs; and Tucker Lawless went 2-for-3 to lead the county.
Hunt started and pitched the first two innings giving up two runs (one earned) and Lodge pitched the final two innings giving up the final five runs. Hunt and Dickey both had doubles in the loss.
