TRM volleyball practice to be reflection on season

It is often said how you practice in the summer is how you play in the fall and according to T.R. Miller Lady Tiger volleyball coach Greg White, summer for his 2013 team has gone pretty well.
“Summer was good for us this year,” White said. “Attendance was very good. The folks that missed, I knew where they were with vacations and other things, so attendance was great.”
This summer, White said he had two real goals for his team.
“One of them was conditioning and the other was more work on the court than we have done in years past,” White said. “We have done that this summer as we have done a lot of work on the track and on the bleachers. The kids did really good with the conditioning and we have played a lot of ball this summer than in years past. In years past, we have spent a lot more time in the weight room. It went really well this year.”
White said his team came in two days a week this summer on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 7 to 9:30 a.m.
“We spent around an hour to an hour-and-a-half doing some conditioning and a little bit of weight work,” White said. “The last hour of the day was spent doing work on the court.”
Along with the summer activities, White and his team had team camp activities.
“We had a team camp this year and that went really well for us,” he said. “We had our seventh grade in here and on up and had 30 kids off middle school, JV and our varsity. We had around 10 players on each team. They have done everything together this year and then some things with their individual teams. The older kids have really helped the younger kids adjust to the speed of the game and help in the things that we will be doing. I like doing that because it helps the kids from a physical standpoint and it helps the older kids with their leadership. We are excited about getting started.”
White said his team started fall practice on Tuesday getting ready for their season opener on Thursday, August 29, at Flomaton.
