Organizers of Brewton’s Choo-Choo Market have been closely watching weather predictions for the weekend, but believe the clouds will only encourage more activity for the Saturday event at Jennings Park.
Connie Baggett, program manager for the City of Brewton, said the rain should hold off to allow buyers and sellers to have a good market day.
“We’ve been watching and the rain should lessen as the morning goes,” Baggett said Friday. “We’re expecting that everyone will have a chance to sell and to buy and have a good day.”
With overcast conditions and a 50/50 chance of rain for the morning, Baggett said it hasn’t dampened the plans for the market.
“We’ve had really good response from vendors for this second market,” Baggett said. “We have some who were at the last market day who plan to be back and we have several new vendors signed up for the market day.”
Baggett said confirmed for the Saturday market are vendors who will be bringing honey, watermelons, peaches, okra, boiled and green peanuts, jellies, jams, baked goods and a host of other items.
“We have had several arts and crafts vendors submit their samples to be approved for market day,” Baggett said. “We are still looking for others as well. We are getting more and more calls everyday about the market and interested vendors who want to know more about it.”
Baggett said all fees will be waived for this second Choo-Choo Market event and the requirement of a specific tent has also been waived for this month.
“We wanted to be able to open up the market to allow anyone who wants to be a part of it to join in,” Baggett said.
“We want the market to grow and by waiving fees and other requirements this time, we hope to see that happen.”
Baggett said a special Facebook page has been created to keep area vendors and buyers aware of activities and those committed to be a part of the event.

Local growers may complete the application for certification at no cost at the Alabama Extension Service Office on South Boulevard behind Southern Pine Electric Cooperative. Arts and crafts vendors must submit a sample of their products to Baggett prior to market day in order to be approved for a space.
