City’s rebirth exciting

The ongoing “Brewton Reborn” project is beginning to take off and a large number of people are doing exactly what the project was focused on doing — getting people together.

As new events are planned and others continue in the city, a larger number of people are getting involved and learning something new about the community they call home.

As the second Choo-Choo Farmer’s Market began last weekend at Jennings Park, more than double the original number of vendors set up tables and tents and seemed content to be there — even in the rain.

The events that have already been a part of the Brewton Reborn initiative — Choo-Choo Market, artistic trash barrells around the city, a Lemonade Brigade, a geocaching event and others — are a little like labor pains in the birthing of the city during a revitalizing event.

Vendors, buyers and organizers all joined in a few wet hours of fellowship with friends, introductions to new friends, and sharing a morning of fun, laughter and great, locally-made produce and products.

The market is more than an opportunity to find fresh tomatoes or a good body scrub, its about getting out into the community, getting to know our neighbors and making our city more like home.

We encourage everyone to take a stroll through Jennings Park on Aug. 31 when the next Choo-Choo Market is held. With vendors from around Brewton and the surrounding area, there will plenty of interesting things up for the consideration of buyers.

You’ll likely find great vegetables, some wonderful jams and jellies, and you may just find a new friend.
