Habitat for Humanity is preparing for another big event set for Aug. 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at The Hourglass. “Hard Hats and High Heels,” a fashion event will feature local residents and business owners working together to prove that shoppers don’t have to leave town to find fashions and accessories.

Alicia Glaize, director of the Escambia County Habitat for Humanity, said she got the idea from another Habitat program and thought about it for Mother’s Day, but there was not enough time to plan it.

“I thought it would be a good idea to try right here in our own town, but we didn’t have time to get it together, so we decided to save it for this time of the year,” Glaize said. “Summer is coming to an end and fall weather will be here soon. It will be a combination of fashions, accessories and food.”

The price of a ticket is $10 in advance and $12 at the door, so everyone is advised to save shopping money by getting advance tickets. There are 17 booth spaces that have been rented out to local vendors to display their wares. Some of them are local businesses while some of them are home-based.

“We will have soft drinks available along with hors d’oeuvres and there will be plenty of time for browsing,” Glaize said. “Everyone can browse, shop, visit, eat, hear good music (by Connie Baggett), and see friends and neighbors modeling the latest in fashion. During the last hour there will be a fashion show featuring fashions from some of the local businesses.”

Glaize listed those participating as Weaver’s (clothing and accessories), The Dot Shop (jewelry and women’s clothing, Jus Because (clothing and accessories from Atmore), Cherry Barn Originals (children’s clothing), Grace Adele ( purses and accessories), Thirty One (tote bags), Mary Kay Cosmetics, Scentsy (candles and fragrances), Rodan and Fields (skin care), Stella and Dot (jewelry), Thou Art (jewelry, accessories and home decor), Origami Owl (jewelry), Cookie Lee (jewelry), KK’s Creations and Hand Made Knits (children’s clothing, school spirit items and hand knit items), Tastefully Simple (easy to prepare foods), Sarah Clower (signing and selling her recently published book), Cato (fashion and accessories) and Habitat ReStore (home repair and home furnishings).

Tickets are available from The Dot Shop, Jus Because, Weaver’s, Thou Art, Habitat ReStore and the office of First Methodist Church of Brewton.

“This will be a fun event welcoming fall and to see the great things that are available in our local area,” Glaize said. “We will have some local cooks showing their skills in different dishes that will be offered and Terrance and Becki Breckenridge were kind enough to let us use The Hourglass and we appreciate it.”
