In their first games of the year at Jay Thursday, the W.S. Neal JV and varsity volleyball teams saw their seasons start with losses.
In the JV game, W.S. Neal lost 2-0 to Jay by scores of 25-10 and 25-14. In the varsity game, W.S. Neal lost 3-0. The Lady Eagles lost set one 25-8, set two 25-19 and set three 25-14.
“The JV played real well,” W.S. Neal head coach Jason Blaney said. “I was very proud of their effort. The girls have probably been through three different rotation changes the past three days and picked it up very quick. We still have to work on getting first serve over along with receiving, but that will come. They are going to be just fine and have a bright future in W.S. Neal Volleyball program.”
In the varsity game, Blaney said his team really struggled in the first set.
“I knew being our first season game there was going to be some miscues and growing pains with the new stuff we implemented,” he said. “But after coming out of our last summer camp tournament we were a little surprised how we played. Jay is a great team. Taking nothing from them, but we missed some opportunities with our service game and with our receiving of serve. With that being said, it was the first game and these girls have been working extremely hard and we are going to be OK. We are going to keep doing what we do, keep working hard and we will be just fine.”
W.S. Neal will play at Central Tuesday at 4 and 5 p.m. in a JV and varsity game. The Lady Eagles will have their first home game of the season on Tuesday, September 10, when they host Hillcrest. Game time is set for 4 and 5 p.m. and will be a JV and a varsity game.
