Eyes in the sky are responsible for a new arrest of a Flomaton area man — the second arrest in as many years on similar charges for the suspect.
Donald Wayne Huie, 64, of Crabtree Road just off Upper Creek Road near Flomaton, was arrest by members of the 21st Judicial Drug Task Force after aircraft spotted marijuana plants near his home.
Huie has been charged second-degree unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana — the same charges he faced after a 2011 arrest under similar circumstances.
According to officials, the latest discovery of marijuana plants believed to belong to Huie resulted in the eradication of 59 plants. The previous eradication of plants consisted of nearly 300 marijuana plants — plants Huie admitted to growing following the 2011 arrest.
Based on a street-value of $2,500 per plant, the discovery this week is estimated to be valued at just over $272,000.
A 10-year sentence imposed on Huie in June 2012 in connection with the August 2011 arrest was suspended with a requirement that he serve three years in community corrections and three years supervised probation.
Reports say that county officials have filed for a revocation of his probation in connection with the arrest this week. If convicted on the current charges, Huie could serve as many as 10 years behind bars for the previous charges.
Huie is being held without bond in the Escambia County Detention Center.
