Aspiring authors may have a chance to get all the information they ever wanted about publishing a book of their own this weekend at the Brewton Public Library.
Amanda Bradley with BPL said the Saturday event is the first of what staff members hope will be a regular event.
“We have had several people to ask about how to have a book they’ve written published,” Bradley said. “After seeing how many published authors we have locally, we thought this would be a great way to let writers talk to writers about the process.”
Bradley said the event is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Brewton Public Library Community House, next door to the main library.
“We have invited a group of authors to come and set up their book to show people who are interested,” Bradley said. “The authors will be there to discuss how they got started on a project they eventually got published. There are a lot of steps to getting a book published and these authors will be able to guide other writers to pursue that goal.”
Local authors already committed to being a part of the event this weekend include Randy Tatano, the Rev. H.K. Matthews, James Weaver, Ervin McClure, Lisa Greer, Mary Nell Simpson, Lydia Grimes and Renee Shipp.
“We started having some book talks at the library recently,” Bradley said. “We did Renee’s (Shipp) book first and got the idea to continue to promote our local authors. We hope this will be the first event that we hope to make a regular part of what we do at the library.”
Bradley said the first Writer’s Conference will hopefully inspire writers to enter the world of publishing.
The event is free to the public, Bradley said. The event should end by 3 p.m.
