T.R. Miller gymnasium was all dressed in pink Thursday afternoon as the Lady Tiger volleyball teams hosted Flomaton in their annual pink game—and all three T.R. Miller teams came away with wins.
In middle school action, BMS improved to 9-0 with a 2-0 win over Flomaton. Brewton took set one 25-10 and set two 25-10.
In JV action, T.R. Miller improved to 4-2 with a 2-0 win over Flomaton. The JV Lady Tigers won set one 25-13 and set two 25-12.
In varsity action, T.R. Miller improved to 6-2 overall with a 3-0 win over the Lady Hurricanes. T.R. Miller took set one 25-16 and set two 25-16. In set three, T.R. Miller won 25-10.
“First of all, I want to thank Flomaton for participating,” T.R. Miller Lady Tiger head coach Greg White said. “Every year we have been doing this now, for about seven or eight years, we always tell the coach in advance we are having pink night. Usually teams were pink ribbons or shoe strings, but tonight, Flomaton wore pink jerseys tonight. Their fans also wore pink tonight so we had a gym full of pink tonight. That was good. We raised a lot of money for our Relay for Life team, so I want to thank them for participating tonight. They didn’t have too, but I want to thank (Flomaton head) coach Green for letting them do that tonight.”
As for the games, White thought all T.R. Miller teams did a good job in getting wins and improving their records.
“Tonight for us, all three teams—middle school, JV and varsity—played extremely well,” he said. “We have been using the word flow the last few games. We have not had a lot of flow in what we are doing. We were getting back, but it has not been real smooth. Tonight, the offense just flowed. The setters were setting and the passers were passing. We were hitting the ball real well. Flomaton blocked a few of our shots, but we kept hitting the ball and over the course of the night, it finally took it’s toll. We had a better offensive flow with our team and I was very, very proud of that.”
White also said he wanted to thank the students who came to the game.
“Again, the student section was outstanding,” he said. “A lot of kids showed up tonight wearing their pink and they provided a really good atmosphere for the ball. So I want to thank them as well. It was just a good night and a good win. Anytime you can beat Flomaton, it is just always a good thing.”
T.R. Miller’s JV and varsity will play at Bayside Academy Monday at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. before traveling to W.S. Neal Tuesday for an area game.
Game times are set for 4, 5, and 6 p.m. with the middle schools playing first followed by the JV teams and then the varsity.
