In their only game of the week Thursday, and their first in a week, the W.S. Neal varsity Lady Eagle volleyball team swept the Excel Panthers 3-0 while the JV Lady Eagles lost 2-1.
In JV action, W.S. Neal lost set one 25-13 but took set two 25-23. In the third and deciding set, W.S. Neal lost 15-12.
In varsity action, W.S. Neal took set one 25-18, set two 25-21 and set three 25-21.
“(Excel’s) Coach Sampley has a great team there at Excel that is very disciplined and plays superb defense,” W.S. Neal head coach Jason Blaney said of the varsity game. “We were very aggressive on our attacks and even when we missed some the girls kept swinging, which is what you want. We had great hustle from every girl. We did let up a little bit after the first set and have to work on consistency and staying after it. This was a good night for us because we are starting to play like we are capable of. We received serve very well, which we have been working on immensely at practice, but we have to do a better job of our service game which let us down in the third set. Next week is a busy week for us with Flomaton and Miller coming to Neal (Monday and Tuesday) and then we travel to Pleasant Home (Thursday) and hopefully with every game, win or lose, we keep striving and working at getting better.”
