Just four days after playing at Pleasant Home on Thursday, the W.S. Neal Middle School, JV and varsity volleyball teams met the Lady Eagles again and came away with the same results as the previous match.
In Monday’s home match, the Lady Eagles of W.S. Neal Middle School was the lone team to come away with a win as they won 2-0 over Pleasant Home. WSNMS took set one 25-19 and set two 25-15 to improve to 9-2 overall this season. The Lady Eagles will end their season Thursday with a road game at Escambia County Middle School in Atmore.
In JV action, W.S. Neal lost 2-0 as they lost in straight sets by scores of 25-10 and 25-11. The loss dropped W.S. Neal to 2-6 overall.
In the varsity match, W.S. Neal fell to 3-6 overall as they lost 3-2 to Pleasant Home.
After losing set one 25-19, W.S. Neal rallied to win set two 25-21 and set three 25-20. Needing one more set win to claim the win in the match, W.S. Neal lost set four 25-13 to see Pleasant Home force a deciding fifth set. In the fifth set, W.S. Neal lost 15-12.
“Take nothing away from (Pleasant Home) coach Jerry and Pleasant Home, he is a heck of a coach and Pleasant Home is an unbelievably good defensive team,” W.S. Neal Lady Eagle head coach Jason Blaney said. “They get to the ball and come up with digs that are amazing. After losing the first set our ladies settled down and won the next two, but we again let up which is our biggest problem right now and Pleasant Home took advantage with a fourth set victory of 13-25. After that, we were up 3-0 and again 12-11 in the fifth but Pleasant Home kept fighting. We have got to work on playing a complete game. We are athletic and aggressive, but we seem to let up. We still have some time to fix it and start playing complete games, but we have to fix it quick.”
W.S. Neal played at a tri-match with Excel and Hillcrest Tuesday afternoon in Excel. On Thursday, W.S. Neal will play a doubleheader at Cottage Hill before playing in the Escambia County Tournament Saturday at JDCC.
On Monday, W.S. Neal will wrap up area play with No. 1 Bayside Academy at home for a varsity doubleheader.
