WSNMS football now 5-0 with one game left on schedule

Only one game stands between the W.S. Neal Middle School football team from posting a perfect 6-0 season as the team improved to 5-0 Thursday night with a road win in Excel. W.S. Neal defeated Excel 20-14.
W.S. Neal led Excel 8-0 after the first quarter and 8-6 at the half. In the third quarter, W.S. Neal added their second touchdown of the game to go on top 14-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Excel outscored the Eagles of East Brewton 8-6, but W.S. Neal was able to take the six-point win and remain undefeated this season.
Christian Wood had 116 yards on 17 carries for W.S. Neal in the win while Jacobey Hawthorne added 30 yards on six carries and scored one touchdown. Marvin Maddox added 43 yards on nine carries While Matt Hutchins also had a touchdown in the win. Darius Williams finished with 28 yards on three carries.
Hawthorne was 2-for-3 passing for 68 yards and one touchdown while Hutchins was 2-for-3 with 25 yards.
Wood had one catch for 50 yards and a score while Hawthorne added one catch for 20 yards. Taylor Fountain had one catch for 18 yards while Maddox had one for five yards.
Following an open week next week, W.S. Neal will end their season with a road game at Brewton Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
The game will be played at Brewton Municipal Stadium on the campus of T.R. Miller High School.
