The Faulkner State Community College Sun Chiefs took an 8-7 extra-innings win over Jefferson Davis Community College in an exhibition baseball Tuesday played at the PCI Recreation Department.
The game marked the first time the two teams have played on the baseball field owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the colleges used it as a way to expand their reach, said Warhawks coach Darrell Blevins.
“It lets the kids over there know about Faulkner State and Jefferson Davis,” Blevins said. “It was fun. It was a good day.”
The game didn’t go in the Warhawks favor though, as a ball hit by a Sun Chiefs’ batter reached left-center to bring home a runner in the top of the 12th inning.
“They were up 7-4 going into the bottom of the 10th inning, but we scored three runs to tie it up,” Blevins said.
Blevins said starting pitcher Dylan Johnson had “one of his best outings” against the Sun Chiefs, while John Mark Cosby played well and Hunter Myrick “had a big hit to score the tying run.”
Blevins said the Warhawks would “absolutely” play another game hosted by PCI.
“It was a good trip for us,” he said. “Our kids really enjoyed it.”
