The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk volleyball team picked up their first win of the season Friday night at home as they swept Baptist College 3-0. With the win JDCC improved to 1-11 overall this season.
JDCC took set one 25-12 and followed the win in set one with a 25-12 win in set two and a 25-8 win in set three.
“Lauren Pierce played extremely well,” JDCC head coach Allen Gainer said. “Liz McCrary, with the injuries we have had to our front row girls, played well on the front row for us. She did a great job. I am just really proud of all the girls. They hung in there and continue to have a great attitude and to practice hard. I am just extremely proud of them. They are a great group of girls.”
Gainer said getting the first win of the season and his first as a volleyball coach helps.
“Hopefully we can build on this one and get a few more,” he said. “We have a lot of home games in October so hopefully this will get us going in the right direction.”
JDCC will play the first of three straight home games Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Faulkner State. The Lady Warhawks will return home Thursday to take on Wallace-Selma and will finish the home stand with a game against Pensacola State on Monday, Oct. 14.
JDCC’s game with Wallace-Selma will be at 7 p.m. while the Pensacola State game will be played at 6 p.m.
