Clara Mae White Jackson

Mrs. Clara Mae White Jackson, 87, died Oct. 15, 2013. She was a native of Brewton and a member of the Catawba Springs Baptist Church. She served the Brewton and Escambia County area in several roles, but none more high profile than her 22 years of service as an instructor at Jefferson Davis Community College. Mrs. Jackson was a founding member of the JDCC faculty, being hired prior to the completion of the campus construction in 1966. She was the Secretarial Science instructor, mentor and role model to thousands of business students serving the public across the United States. Her services as a business educator spanned three decades, beginning in 1960 as a classroom teacher in Gadsden and then on to Chesapeake, Va., in 1961 before moving back to Brewton with JDCC in 1966.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, C.C. Jackson, Jr.; her parents, Rufus A. and Essie Mae White; two brothers, James M. White and Wesley J. White.
She is survived by three sons, Chris (Jan) Jackson of Indianapolis, Ind., Charles (Cindy) Jackson and Carl (Elaine) Jackson all of Brewton; one daughter, Clara (Johnny) Talton of Jacksonville, N.C.; one sister, Lois White Bearse; three brothers, Leon White, Rufus White and Bobby White; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at Catawba Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Sumrall, the Rev. Jeff Edwards and the Rev. Gary Turner officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton in charge of arrangements.
