Both the Brewton Middle School girls and boys basketball teams picked up their first wins of the season Monday at home as they swept W.S. Neal Middle School.
The BMS girls claimed a 16-9 win over W.S. Neal to improve to 1-1 this season while W.S. Neal started the year 0-1.
In the boys game, Brewton earned a 38-30 to see their record go to 1-1 as well while W.S. Neal dropped to 0-1.
W.S. Neal was scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at home against Flomaton. W.S. Neal will be back in action again until Wednesday, Nov. 13 when they travel to Jay for a 3 p.m. tip.
Brewton’s teams are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when they travel to Jay for a 4 p.m. tip.

BMS girls 16, WSNMS girls 9
The Brewton Middle School Lady Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead over W.S. Neal Middle School Monday at home to help propel them to a seven-point win, 16-9.
The Lady Tigers of Brewton Middle School led W.S. Neal 4-0 after one quarter of play and 9-0 with 3:19 left to play in the first half. Up 9-0, W.S. Neal used a 4-0 run to end the second quarter to cut Brewton’s lead to 9-4 at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter for both teams, W.S. Neal continued their run and increased it to 7-0 to cut Brewton’s lead to 9-7 after a 3-pointer by Haylee Watson with 4:55 left in the game.
With their lead cut to two points, Brewton then went on a 5-0 run to grab a 14-7 lead with 3:26 left to play in the game. From there, both teams scored two point each as Brewton hung on for the seven-point win.
Brewton’s Kyla Bell led in the win with five points while Morgan Longmire added four points. Breonna Dees chipped in three points while Malaysia Campbell and Karmaiya Jenkins both had two points each.
For W.S. Neal, Watson led with three points while Tia Lewis, Maniya Smith and Marisha Fraser both had two points each in the loss.
Brewton was 2-for-13 from the free throw line while W.S. Neal was 0-for-6.

BMS boys 38, WSNMS boys 30
Joshua Jolly poured in 18 points and Michael Campbell added 10 points for the Brewton Middle School Tigers as they defeated W.S. Neal Middle School 38-30 Monday in Brewton.
The Tigers of BMS, after trailing 3-0 to start the game, outscored W.S. Neal 10-5 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, W.S. Neal held a 5-4 advantage over the Tigers to cut the lead to 14-10 at the halftime break. In the third quarter, W.S. Neal continued to chip away at Brewton’s lead as they outscored the Tigers 14-12 to cut Brewton’s lead to 26-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Brewton built a 31-26 lead with 4:26 left in the game only to see W.S. Neal cut the lead to 31-30 with 2:42 remaining in the game.
With their lead down to one point, Brewton ended the game on a 7-0 run to get the win by eight.
Along with Jolly’s 18 points and Campbell’s 10, Demonte Jenkins added six points while Stokes Jennings added four point.
For W.S. Neal, Jacoby Hawthorne led with 11 points while P.J. Lovelace had six. Taylor Fountain had five points and Marvin Maddox had four. Both Beau Bryan and Jordan Hails had two points each in the loss.
Brewton shot 5-for-15 from the free throw line while W.S. Neal went 7-for-22.
