In their first home game of the season Tuesday against Flomaton, the W.S. Neal Middle School girls and boys basketball teams split with the Hurricanes.
The Lady Eagles dropped a 21-17 decision to fall to 0-2 this year while the boys picked up their first win of the season to improve to 1-1 after taking down Flomaton 40-7.
W.S. Neal Middle School’s teams will be back in action Wednesday, Nov. 13 on the road at Jay. Game time is set to tip at 3 p.m.
The game will be the first of three straight road games for W.S. Neal who will not return home until Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they will face off against Jay at 3 p.m.

Flomaton 21, WSNMS girls 17
Down 16-7 at the half, the W.S. Neal Middle School girls outscored Flomaton 10-5 in the second half, but it was not enough as they took a four-point loss, 21-17.
W.S. Neal was outscored 5-0 in the first quarter and 11-7 in the second to trail by nine at the halftime break. From there, W.S. Neal held an 8-4 advantage in the third quarter to cut the lead to 20-15 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, both teams struggled on offensive, but W.S. Neal held a 2-1 advantage in the quarter and lost by four.
Leading W.S. Neal in the loss was Marisha Fraiser and Tia Lewis with four points each. Jashira Dees and Maniya Smith had three points each while Janiyah McCants chipped in two points and Raven Woods had one point in the loss.
W.S. Neal was 2-for-7 from the free throw line while Flomaton was 3-for-15.

WSNMS boys 40, Flomaton 7
W.S. Neal jumped out to a 15-0 halftime lead over Flomaton Tuesday and later added a 13-0 run and a 12-0 run in the game to claim a 33-point win over the Hurricanes for their first win of the season.
W.S. Neal outscored Flomaton 9-0 in the first quarter and 6-0 in the second quarter to grab a 15-0 lead at the half.
Up by 15 points, the Flomaton offense got going in the second half as they went on a 5-0 run to cut W.S. Neal’s lead to 15-5 with 4:13 left in the third quarter. From there, W.S. Neal went on a 13-0 run to end the quarter and to start the fourth with a 28-5 lead with 3:49 left in the game. Flomaton’s final points came at the 3:28 mark to cut the lead to 28-7, but W.S. Neal ended the game on a 12-0 run to get the win by 33 points.
Jacobey Hawthorne led the Eagles of East Brewton in the win with 19 points. Ricky Samuel had seven points while Taylor Fountain had four. Marvin Maddox and Jordan Hails both had three points each while Steven Summerlin and Mateo Smith had two points each in the win.
W.S. Neal was 2-for-10 from the free throw line while Flomaton shot 1-for-6.
