Hillcrest sweeps TRM basketball teams Monday

In the first games of the season for the T.R. Miller B-team and varsity boys, and the fourth game of the season for the Lady Tigers Monday at Hillcrest-Evergreen, all three teams took losses to the Jaguars.
In the B-team game, the Tigers started their season with an 0-1 record as they took a 48-15 loss to the Jaguars.
In the girls game, the Lady Tigers of T.R. Miller lost 41-8 to fall to 0-4 this season. In varsity action, the Tigers lost 51-31 to start their season 0-1.
T.R. Miller’s teams will be back in action next week, Monday, Dec. 9, when they will travel to Monroeville. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
The teams will play at Flomaton on Tuesday, Dec. 10, before hosting W.S. Neal on Friday, Dec. 13, in their first home game of the season.

Hillcrest 48, T.R. Miller B-team 15
The T.R. Miller Tiger B-team fell to a 6-0 run by Hillcrest to start the game and saw themselves fall to runs of 19-0 and 12-0 later in the game to take a 33-point loss to the Jaguars to start the season.
The B-team Tigers were outscored 6-2 in the first quarter and 23-1 in the second quarter to fall behind the Jaguars 29-3 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Tigers offense came to life as they edged out the Jaguars 9-8 to cut the lead to 37-12 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Tigers offense lacked once more as they were outscored 11-3 to end the game.
Leading the way for the Tigers on offense was Tamerick Jenkins and Markail Mitchell with four points each. Ahmaud Taylor chipped in three points while Austin Holmes and Harrison Hughes both added two points in the defeat.
T.R. Miller shot 3-for-11 from the free throw line while Hillcrest was 2-for-11.

Hillcrest 41, T.R. Miller Lady Tigers 8
It was another long night for the Lady Tigers as they once again struggled on offense and took a 41-8 thrashing from the Hillcrest Lady Jags.
Hillcrest opened the game on an 11-0 run and added a 10-0 run over the span of the third and fourth quarters before ending the game on a 13-0 run to seal the 33-point win over the Lady Tigers.
Ivory Johnson led the Lady Tigers with five points while Nastarcia Drakeford had two points and Me’Khia Williams added one point.
Hillcrest led T.R. Miller 9-0 after one quarter of play and 16-5 at the half. In the third quarter, Hillcrest outscored T.R. Miller 4-2 before holding a 21-1 advantage in the fourth quarter.
T.R. Miller was 3-for-11 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest shot 6-of-10.
So far this season the Lady Tigers have been outscored by 125 points (173-48) in the four games. The Lady Tigers have lost 50-12 to South Walton, 48-11 to Niceville, 34-17 to Daphne and 41-8 Monday night to Hillcrest.

Hillcrest 51, T.R. Miller varsity boys 31
Despite having seven players score and Shawn Tolbert leading the way with 12 points, the T.R. Miller varsity Tigers dropped their first game of the season to Hillcrest Monday night by a score of 51-31.
“I thought we played hard and did some things well tonight,” T.R. Miller Tiger varsity boys head coach Juan Johnson said of his team in their first game. “However we just didn’t get done consistently on both ends of the floor. Several mental mistakes prevented us from getting a run or a key stop we need to turn the game. Basketball is a game runs and we never quite got ours tonight.”
In the game Monday, the Tigers fell behind Hillcrest 12-0 to start the game. Hillcrest went on to outscore the Tigers 21-8 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Tigers once again posted eight points, but Hillcrest’s 12 points extended the Jaguars’ lead to 33-16 at the half.
In the third quarter, Hillcrest went on to outscore the Tigers 13-7 to build a 46-23 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth, T.R. Miller outscored Hillcrest 8-5, but still took the loss by 20 points.
Along with Tolbert’s 12 points, Dominique Jackson and Caden Lodge both had four points each in the loss. Trae Walker, Michael Woods, and Kieon Smith all had three points each while Jalen Jones had two points.
The varsity Tigers were 2-of-7 from the free throw line in the loss while Hillcrest shot 8-for-17.
