WSNMS boys defeat Jay, girls fall

The W.S. Neal Middle School boys basketball team picked up their fifth straight win Wednesday at home while the Lady Eagles of WSNMS fell to 2-4 with a loss.
The Lady Eagles suffered a 17-15 loss to Jay while the boys won 31-25 to improve to 5-1 this season.
Following a game at home Thursday against Brewton Middle School, W.S. Neal is scheduled to end their season Tuesday, Dec. 10, at home against McCall. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Jay 17, WSNMS girls 15
A 6-2 scoring advantage for Jay in the second quarter proved to be the difference in the game Wednesday for the W.S. Neal Middle School Lady Eagles as they suffered a two-point loss to the Lady Royals by a sore of 17-15.
W.S. Neal led Jay 4-2 after one quarter but fell behind 8-6 at the half following the four-point scoring difference in the second quarter.
In the second half, both teams poured in nine points each as Jay edged out the Lady Eagles by two points.
Both teams scored two points in the third quarter and seven points each in the final quarter.
Leading the way for W.S. Neal was Marisha Fraser with eight points. Fraser was followed by Haylee Watson’s three points while Janiyah McCants and Maniya Smith both had two points each in the loss.
W.S. Neal was 0-for-7 from the free throw line while Jay shot 3-for-12.
WSNMS boys 31, Jay 25
Jacoby Hawthorne poured in 17 points for the W.S. Neal Middle School boys as they defeated Jay 31-25 Wednesday.
W.S. Neal jumped out to a big lead over Jay in the first quarter as they led 12-4 after one quarter of play. In the second quarter, Jay cut into the lead by three points as they outscored the Eagles 5-2 to cut W.S. Neal’s lead to 14-9 at the half.
In the third quarter, the two teams combined for 23 points as Jay outscored W.S. Neal 12-11 to cut the lead to 25-21 heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, W.S. Neal pulled away with a 6-4 advantage to get the win by six.
Along with Hawthorne’s 17 points, Marvin Maddox, P.J. Lovelace, and Jordan Hails all had four points each. Ricky Samuel added two points.
W.S. Neal was 2-for-5 from the free throw line while Jay was 9-of-11.
