Undercover operations led to the arrests of three Brewton residents on drug charges over the past week, city narcotics officers said.

Agents arrested three men in connection with the alleged distribution of crack cocaine in Brewton:

• Bryant DeWayne Smith, 31, of Brewton was charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and two separate charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

• Edward DeWayne Johnson, 30, of Brewton, on one charge each of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine).

• Anjovan Shavonte Askew, 34, of Brewton, on one charge of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

“The cases on all three suspects are the results of undercover investigations performed by the Brewton Police Department narcotics division regarding the distribution of illegal drugs in the city,” Sgt. Andrew Casey said. “The Brewton Police Department Narcotics Division was able to make undercover purchases of crack cocaine from the subjects during these investigations.

“Anyone who has knowledge of any illegal drug activity can telephone the Brewton Police Department at 251-867-3212 and ask to speak to an investigator in the narcotics division. All callers may remain anonymous and will not be required to leave any information regarding their identity.”
