JDCC basketball falls to 1-4 with home loss to MMI Saturday

The Jefferson Davis Community College Warhawk basketball team saw their losing streak hit four games Saturday at home as they took an 81-62 loss to Marion Military Institute. With the loss, JDCC fell to 1-4 overall this season.
The first half was the deciding factor in the loss for the Warhawks as they were outscored by 16 points, 46-30. In the second half, JDCC was outscored 35-32 to take the loss by 19 points.
Christian Jones led JDCC in the scoring category as he had 13 points. Chris Oden followed with 11 points while Michael Hutchins chipped in eight points and Mikwese Claybourne had seven points.
Anthony Bell and Keaynon Gulley both had six points each while Ty Hairston had four points. Darren Wilson finished with three points while JaQuan Threatt and Sherman Rountree both chipped in two points each in the loss.
Jones and Oden both led with four rebounds each. Jones had three on offense along with Hairston while Oden had three on defense.
Threatt led with five assists and Hutchins led with three blocks. Oden finished with five steals to lead the Warhawks in the loss.
JDCC was 25-for-59 from the field in the loss for 42.4 percent and was 5-for-15 from the 3-point area for 33.3 percent. JDCC shot 7-of-15 from the free throw line in the loss for 46.7 percent.
The Warhawks will be back in action Thursday, Dec. 12, at home against Southern Union. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Brewton.
The game will be the final game of the month of December for JDCC. The Warhawks will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Marion Military. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
JDCC’s first home game in January will be Thursday, Jan. 9, against Bishop State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and will be JDCC’s first conference game of the season.
The Warhawks’ road game that was postponed earlier in the year will be played on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. at Southern Union.
