A Brewton man was arrested Thursday after police said he broke into a home through a window.

Sylvester Nettles of Fountain Avenue was charged with second-degree burglary.

The elderly homeowner, who was at home while it happened, confronted the suspect after she saw him walking down the hall.

“The victim confronted Nettles and he then left the home,” said Lt. Brock Holt. “The victim did know Nettles.”

Nettles was looking through the victim’s purse when she confronted him, Holt said.

The suspect apologized and left, but the victim later pressed charges.

Nettles lives just a block away from the home he is suspected to have broken into, Holt said.
